Azerbaijan: Freedom for 16 prisoners of conscience
Take action
Facebook activist Jabbar Savalan was freed on 26 December after a pardon but 16 prisoners of conscience remain. Call for their freedom.
Jabbar Savalan, 19, was sentenced on 4 May 2011 to two and a half years in prison on fabricated drugs charges, following a post on Facebook calling for protests against the government. The next evening he was arrested as he returned home from a meeting of the opposition Azerbaijan Popular Front Party.
On 26 December 2011 following letters and emails from throusands of you, Jabbar was pardoned and released. This is fantastic news but we are urging the President to overturn Jabbar's conviction and release the 16 prisoners of conscience that remain in jail in Azerbaijan. Please take action on behalf of the 16 prisoners with the letter below.
