This year, we have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to protect human rights and save hundreds of thousands of lives. In July world leaders meet to draw up the first international Arms Trade Treaty. We need to make sure that it is bulletproof.

This week the leaders are meeting in New York for the last time before the final negotiations in July. We need the UK to publicly support the strongest possible Treaty. As a major arms exporter and influential government, any indication that the UK is reducing its support could be a sign of encouragement to those countries pressing for a weaker treaty - one which fails to protect human rights.
