We have the privilege of living in a civilised country and as a whole, our society holds torture as a morally distasteful and inappropriate act. It's drummed into us from an early school age – the dunking of witches centuaries ago is mocked as an absurd test of satanic infiltration and the use of the traditional rack or even the intestinal rack (a real shocker) to illicit false pain-induced confessions is deemed simply horrifying.
