Campaigns: Demanding Change
Support our call to refer Syria to the International Criminal Court (ICC), and urge Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to reign in his security forces.
As the violent suppression of protestors calling for political reform in Syria reaches new lows, we are calling on the UN Security Council to refer the situation to the Prosecutor of the ICC. Those responsible for human rights violations - including unlawful killings, torture and deliberate attacks on civilians – must be held accountable. Since the protests began:
- Army tanks have shelled civilian areas in the southern city of Dera’a and electricity and water supplies to inhabitants have been cut off.
- More than 540 people have been killed across Syria, many of them shot by government security forces during peaceful protests.
- Hundreds of people have been arrested and many are held incommunicado; they are at serious risk of torture.
Please add your name to our petition to President Bashar al-Assad. It will close on 18 May - exactly two months after protestors were first killed in Syria. We will deliver your signatures to Syrian embassies around the world and to the president himself.
