PRESIDENT OBAMA RETREATS FROM ARMENIAN GENOCIDE PLEDGE
change we can believe in?

Turkish PM dismisses apology for alleged Armenian genocid...
very interesting petition - one to watch

I agree that the government of Turkey should allow people to speak up in their own country. Especially right now, the president has jailed dozens of academics, intellectuals, journalists and retired military officers 'in suspicion of being in a terrorist group called Ergenekon that is ultimately against the president'.
However the impression I got from this video from Serj is that the only reason he wanted to 'speak his mind' and 'play his music' in Turkey was to scream solely about the Armenian Genocide, which is a highly debated issue.
I am a listener of System Of A Down myself. If the band only wanted to sing songs about the Armenian Genocide in Istanbul...which is apparently what Serj wants to do...what kind of impression does it put upon his thousands of Turkish fans?
I think all the Armenian and American Government including the person who posted before me should recognize that the history of the 'Genocide' has been repeatedly questioned due to severe alteration. Here is a 7 - part video of an American Historian Professor Justin McCarthy lecturing about the truth of the 'Armenian Genocide' at the London School Of Economics.

i love serj he is da best and this makes him even greater he is awesome and we shuld all support him and oppose to article. its a right that everyone has to speak their mind and it should be allowed in the whole world.. the goverments that dnt allow that are all cowards and they know that 'common' people can make a change but they have to feel powerfull by shutting people up ........ go SERJ TANKIAN UR DA BEST :)

View all comments (6 more)Serj is a brilliant guy and we need to oppose Article 301. To withold the right to express our opinions without punishment is to take away what makes us human. Everybody deserves the right to have thoughts on things, and I think opinions are especially important when it comes to things as controversial as the Armenian Genocide.
I recommend the Screamers film to anybody who is interested. System of a Down were/are a great band.
Incredible: worth watching this video...
Excellent post thank you very much for taking the time to share with those who are starting on the subject. Greetings

This is great, it just echos everything that's going on recently. Turkey can't get into the EU because of the state of their Human Rights records, and President Obama (very diplomatically) condemned the behavior of the authorities there. We need to stand up to this Article 301- it's more than an article, it's eroding people's lives in Turkey through deprivation of their basic rights.
Turkey is a UN member country- it's time it started upholding the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Why is it we have sanctions by the United Nations for countries like Zimbabwe (yes, I know the situation there is beyond terrible) where we leave countries who are also blatantly ignoring their human rights like Turkey and China to their own business?
great interview serj and amnesty, we need to stand up against Article 301, if we dont have human rights we cant express our moods, feelings and thoughts - we need to take action
this link is one that I feel strongly about being an Armenian myself. I think there's a part of spiritual unrest to the Armenian nation itself when Obama denies to admit the crimes as 'Genocide' - But, the difference is, if he says it is genocide, will it restitute what happened? I don't think so... Its not the USA that should be talking, its Turkey.
