I would imagine it is very difficult and dangerous to get to eastern Congo and out again with images at the best of times but right now it must be even harder. There is little infrastructure and shifting sands of millitias to contend with. In this case, I can imagine that the lack of pictures is not so much conspiracy but practical reality.

What is disturbing though is that nearly 5 million Congolese have died since war broke out and the state of the nation's gorillas is still much bigger news.

It can only be a good thing that photos from this latest eruption of violence are being featured so prominently. It seems that conflicts throughout Africa, which have a massive humanitarian impact, are all too readily ignored.
