A court in Guelmim imposed jail sentences on a blogger and an Internet café owner for circulating information about a heavy-handed crackdown on student protests in the nearby village of Taghjijt (200 km south of Agadir) on 1 December.

Moroccan ban for French magazine

An edition of French magazine L'Express International has been banned in Morocco for allegedly insulting Islam.

The Moroccan information minister said the issue breached the country's press code, but did not specify the precise content regarded as offensive.

Morocco jails king insult blogger

A Moroccan blogger has been jailed for two years for showing disrespect to the monarchy, say the man's family.

Mohammed Erraji, 29, was convicted after writing an article claiming King Mohammed VI's charitable habits were encouraging a culture of dependency.
