@ sarah m, you said exactly how i feel. thank-you.
This is disgusting and sad. That the authorities moved the Roma to live next to a sewage treatment plant shows only too clearly what they think of them. It is symptomatic of how how Roma and travelling people are treated and regarded by governments throughout Europe.
Please take action at the Amnesty Uk site

It's not just Slovakia. The rights of Romani are violated thoughout Europe. Checkout the Roma rights network for more information
This is so shocking to learn that at this time, there is still racism and discrimination taking place in civerlised countries in Europe. People still live and behave like Animals in Slavakia. How can a civerlised world like this stare and watch this sickening behaviour? Children's future simed to be based on UN Declaration of Human Rights, (10th December 1948 until now). And yet it seems as though no action is taken against this filthy behaviour. But most of the leading countries are only interested in campaigning for wars and less interested in stopping this discriminating against children. PLEASE can someone stop this in Slovakia, human rights is for all that means children as well! Human Rights To Children. this is so disturbing...
I posted this on the "We are the Romany people" site on facebook. I get a reply from a non-Romany suggesting it served these people right for being theives. This is an example of the sort of prejustice is what we're up against. What was more alarming were some of the comments on the Amnesty facebook page.
Another example of the extraordinary levels of ongoing racism towards all Gypsy Traveller communities. I also thought that it was very interesting (disturbing?) that the recent press coverage of racist attacks on Roma in Belfast chose not to identify the families as Roma, thereby masking the true nature of the racism displayed. Even in the left wing press there seemed to be a strange reluctance to spell oosut the nature of the attacks, thus colluding with the ongoing failure to acknowledge the true extent of racism towards these communities.
Anything that brings the suffering and descrimnation to a larger public and helps to address the ignorance and hatred is good
I am aware that "extremism is a big issue all around eastern Europe". My point was that the Roma are finally protesting against the extremism and prejustice which has for too long been directed at them.
