This is disgusting and sad. That the authorities moved the Roma to live next to a sewage treatment plant shows only too clearly what they think of them. It is symptomatic of how how Roma and travelling people are treated and regarded by governments throughout Europe.
I posted this on the "We are the Romany people" site on facebook. I get a reply from a non-Romany suggesting it served these people right for being theives. This is an example of the sort of prejustice is what we're up against. What was more alarming were some of the comments on the Amnesty facebook page.
I have connections with Northern Ireland and I feel utterly embarrassed and ashamed at this. I think it proves that there was very little political purpose behind the violence that NI experienced for decades - it was an excuse for a minority to be aggressive. Now they've found someone else to attack.
